Job Description

Reports directly to the Controller. Responsible for assisting with the accounting and daily functions of the accounting office and oversees the General Cashiering  and Payroll functions . The accounting office is responsible for maintaining general accounting records, financial reporting, student billing and collections, cash disbursements, cash receipts, and payroll. This position is classified as a confidential position.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (including but not limited to)

  • Preparation of monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and journal entries.
  • Supports the Controller with year-end close, including various reconciliations, accruals, and preparation of year-end closing entries.
  • Supports the Controller with preparation for the annual financial and payroll audits.
  • Oversees fixed assets, which includes analysis of capital project invoices, preparing accounting entries, and capitalization of assets in the Colleague system.
  • Coordinates with Advancement to ensure gift revenue/donations are recorded in the appropriate category. Provides Ad Hoc reports as needed.
  • Maintains the chart of accounts. Ensures confidentiality of specified records—properly handling extremely confidential and sensitive information.
  • Monitors internal compliance and communicates accounting policies and procedures to schools/departments as needed.
  • Collaborates with the Senior Accounting Manager in project accounting functions and maintains accurate payment records for reporting purposes.
  • Provides general oversight to the payroll team to ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll updates and ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws.
  • Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions and best practices. 
  • Serve as the lead relationship team member with Paycom for Payroll and Accounting functions in Paycom HRIS system.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • A bachelor’s degree is required (Accounting or finance preferred).
  • CPA preferred
  • 7 years of experience in accounting preferred
  • Knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, tax reporting, and accounting best practices.
  • Experience with various accounting software is required.
  • Excellent Excel skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office are required.
