Description/Duties & Responsibilities
The City of Santa Clarita is recruiting for part-time, temporary, seasonal (PTS) Preschool Teacher’s Aides to work directly with the Primetime Preschool program. Primetime Preschool serves children ages 3-5 at multiple locations, providing age-appropriate curriculum that includes a variety of activities that promote the growth of young learners socially, emotionally, physically, and academically.
This position is expected to work during the school year, from September through May. This position offers flexible scheduling, with typical shifts between 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Monday through Friday at various locations throughout the City of Santa Clarita. Placement is dependent on program needs.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Works directly with the Preschool Teacher to deliver engaging, age-appropriate preschool programs that foster children’s social, emotional, physical, and academic growth
• Assists in classroom preparations, including organizing materials and activities, setting-up play areas and work stations, and ensuring the facility is clean
• Cleans and disinfects frequently touched surfaces and materials
• Organizes and prioritizes tasks, ensuring timely follows up on assignments, projects, or requests from the Preschool Teacher
• Greets patrons and participants in a friendly and professional manner; answers inquiries regarding preschool program
• Maintains accurate records of various forms, logs, and reports
• Addresses behavior concerns in the classroom when necessary, guides children toward appropriate behavior, and escalates any concerns to the Preschool Teacher or other Primetime Preschool supervisory staff
• Performs first aid and emergency response as needed; reports incidents and accidents
• Supervises and leads children while maintaining appropriate staff/child ratio
• Attends meetings and training sessions
• Adheres to Los Angeles Department of Public Health guidelines set forth
• Performs other duties, as directed by Recreation and Community Services Supervisor, Coordinator, and/or Preschool Teacher
Education and Experience
• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Six months paid or volunteer experience in preschool and/or child care programs
• Completion of six Early Childhood Education (ECE) is highly desirable
• Possession of, or ability to obtain within one month of hire, Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid
• A combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered

• Ability to lift, drag, and push files, paper, and equipment weighing 25 pounds or more is required occasionally

Before entering upon the duties of employment, all public employees, except those excluded by law, take and subscribe to an oath or affirmation set forth in the California Constitution, declaring them to be Disaster Service Workers in time of need.
In compliance with California law, positions working with children are required to be mandated child abuse reporters. A mandated reporter is an individual who is obligated by law to report suspected cases of child abuse and neglect.
In addition, part-time, temporary, and seasonal (PTS) employees may be required to participate in the DMV Employer Pull-Notice Program. This program authorizes the City to receive a driver record report upon enrollment and during employment.
PTS workers are at-will. Generally, PTS employees are limited to no more than 999 hours.
