Are you passionate about helping others? Do you know American Sign Language (ASL)? We are looking for a caring and energetic individual to join our team and make a real impact in the lives of people with autism and other developmental disabilities .As a roommate/Direct Support Professional (DSP), you will live with and assist an individual with developmental disabilities in their home and community. Your job will include teaching safety, social interactions, and self-help skills. Living Arrangement: You will share living expenses, like rent and utilities, with your roommate, making this role both meaningful and financially manageable. This position is ideal for someone looking for an affordable living situation in the Santa Clarita Valley.
Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one support to an individual with autism or other developmental disabilities.
- Teach daily living skills, safety awareness, and social interactions.
- Be a role model and mentor, helping the individual thrive in the community.
- Assist with personal care, emotional support, and daily activities.
- Work closely with the individual’s family to support a cohesive family environment.
- Follow all organizational policies and procedures.
- Provide one-to-one support to an individual in their home & community whom has a diagnosis of Autism or other developmental disabilities & has limited safety awareness.
- Implement the individuals Support Plan as developed
- Provide the necessary accommodations to support an individual with various challenges (behavioral, physical, communication, etc.) within their home and community
- Support the individual to establish a daily/weekly schedule of activities.
- Act as a mentor and role model for socially acceptable and culturally valued ways to interact and support each other to be successful
- Participate hands-on in all activities
- Assist and support the person to maintain their own personal safety and well-being
- Provide information to family members about the unique needs of the individual to assist in the building of a more cohesive family unit.
- Comply with all policies and procedures of the organization and public locations of activities
- Other responsibilities as assigned
